From his window, head right and down the stairs and grab some Pebbles from the corpse. These can be used to get the attention of a single target among a crowd - perfect for luring enemies away from a mob. Cross the street by going over the bridge, where another enemy will burst through some barrels in an attempt to startle you. To the left is a shortcut that will drop down on a lower level - it’s up to you if you want to take it. If you take the other path, it leads past 2 more of the mob, one sitting down, and a set of stairs leading to the main road. This road will have a group of 4 Huntsmen who will begin walking up the path as you near the stairs. You can lure a few of them at a time up the stairs to take them out carefully, or let them pass. Going left from the bottom of the stairs will lead back to the giant gate near the Clinic, which you can open. There’s also a hidden area behind the carriage leading to a very large and angry armored Executioner. This guy is extremely powerful for the area, and should only be tackled if you’re looking for a challenge, or really want the chance for him to drop something good.
Heading up the street is a stairway to the upper platform the earlier shortcut led to. There’s another NPC behind a door who will pretty much tell you to shove off, as well as a corpse with more Molotov co*cktails. Another lighted door on the street will also tell you to go away, because people here just don't seem to like you. Around the carriage is another set of stairs guarded by a sitting huntsman, don’t miss him. It’s best to take the stairs - as a large crowd has gathered up ahead to prepare for the hunt. On the higher level, you can head towards the crowd from your vantage point, and check a corpse with a Blood Stone Shard on your right (watch for the ambush by the enemy around the corner.) Collect enough shards, and you'll be able to fortify your weapons at the Hunter's Dream. Moving further up the path will have another enemy ambush you from a doorway.
Once you reach the stairs that lead directly to the large mob, most of them will begin to disperse and patrol. two groups of two will patrol the far ledge, two will start walking towards your location, and another small group and those you didn't kill earlier will patrol the length of the street - leaving 2 gunmen and 2 others around the burning Scourge Beast. Lure the 2 coming your way up the stairs and take them out, then go the rest of the length to get a corpse with some Quicksilver Bullets and continue on to an enemy looking beyond a locked gate. This is an excellent time to practice stealth attacks (hold down R2, then press R1 after they are stunned). From here, drop down to the plaza. Don't worry about the large thing banging on the gates, they will hold. Instead, grab the Blood Vials from the corpse at the gate, and sneak up on the gunman facing the fire. You’ll be out of range of the rest if they aren’t patrolling nearby. Be sure to also take out the Rabid Dog lurking behind the carriage, then start luring the patrols towards the large gate. When most of the patrols are gone, run back to the stairs on the left and dodge the sniper’s fire, and lure in the remaining enemies on the street. Once the sniper on the carriage is alone, he’ll be easy enough to run up to and kill. Don't forget the corpse in the far corner by where the rifleman was to get some Coldblood Dew. This item lets you gain more Blood Echoes, but this can be conserved for later. Only use them when you need more echoes to level up or purchase items, as you run the risk of losing your Blood Echoes on death if you use the dew early.
With everyone in the plaza dead, it’s time to continue on underneath the bridge. On the other side, look immediately to the left to find a corpse behind some barrels holding another Blood Stone Shard. There's another corpse at the stairs ahead with some Blood Vials and there’s a lighted house at the end of the path with lots of laughter emanating from within. The colorful lady inside will tell you to piss off, but take note of the row of destructible coffins to the left. Head down to the fountain to find the source of the banging - a giant Huntsman's Minion with a large brick. These enemies move fairly fast when they want to strike, but are quite vulnerable to molotovs, and can be stunned with a well timed firearm shot. Make sure you take him out, because if you try to go up the stairs on the far side, he’ll stop pounding the gate and quietly come hunt you down. When he's down, check the two bodies for more Molotov co*cktails and a Torch. The torch can be swapped with your offhand weapon to both light up dark areas, and do fire damage to enemies - to which many beasts are quite vulnerable. There’s also a group of large Carrion Crows on the other end of the fountain. They don’t fly - but they do leap into the air for a surprisingly effective pecking attack if you don’t get out of their way. Check the debris behind the crows to find two Oil Jars. These rare items can be thrown at enemies to make them more vulnerable to fire attacks from things like Molotovs and your torch.
Up the stairs, going right will lead to the other side of the gate under the bridge that has a corpse with Coldblood Dew, and going left will lead to a locked gate that you can hear the faint sounds of a music box coming from the other side. Further up the stairs are two Rabid Dogs, who will be joined by a group of 4 coming down the far stairs - with a dog and a rifleman among them. Carefully lure them out in small groups and save the rifleman for last. From here you can grab some Blood Vials from the corpse on the far bench, and take the stairs up to the bridge - only to be met with a small problem.
Two Scourge Beasts are blocking your progress down the length of the bridge - and these aren’t like the pushover weakened wolf you fought in the clinic. While molotovs can take a chunk of their health, they rarely come without the other, and one pounce can ruin your day. Whether or not you think you want to fight them yet, go the opposite direction to the end of the bridge, and look behind the statues for a Blood Stone Shard. Then head down the stairs on the opposite side to find a corpse with many Pebbles dangling over the drop leading back to the pyre. Check the far wall for a Blood Stone Shard, and break the debris opposite the ledge to find yet another Blood Stone Shard, as well as a back entrance to the aqueduct that you can come back to later.
If you’d rather avoid the Scourge Beasts, there is another way around the bridge that will allow you to kill the beasts easily. Go back to the occupied house with the cackling ladies near the fountain, and smash up the coffins along the wall to find a ledge to drop down into. This place is filled with dog kennels, and at least two dogs are roaming around down the stairs. Another is likely to burst from his cage - so kill the imprisoned dogs before they get that chance. If you go left before the bridge to the right of where you dropped down, you can find a dog guarding a corpse with Coldblood Dew. The bridge over the canal will lead to the aqueduct and another occupied house, which you can talk to now or later. From the dog kennels, head up the stairs to a branching path. the stairs on the left are broken, but have Coldblood Dew. The route to the right leads to not one but two patrolling giant brick-wielding Huntsman's Minions, who are guarding an elevator to the second boss past the aqueducts. The path straight ahead goes under the bridge and into a dark house. Get your bearings quickly, because there’s one angry huntsman just to the left immediately as you enter the dark house, and an angry blunderbuss toting huntsman in a wheelchair further back in the dark, watching over a corpse with Pungent Blood co*cktails (he may look harmless from behind but don’t be fooled!). The blood co*cktails make good distractions for beasts, but they'll be in short supply for quite a while. There's also a note on the far cabinet which can give you some more insight to the story. The path to the second floor has two more hiding enemies, one of which guards a corpse with some Coldblood Dew. Hold off on the second-floor door to the bridge for just a moment and exit through the opposite door on the first floor. Go up the stairs and kill the lone man, grab the Blood Stone Shard from the corpse, then go up to the gate and open it. You’ve now opened a shortcut leading back to the waypoint - which is going to be very useful in a moment.
Head back into the building and up the stairs, through the door to the bridge. If you didn't already kill the Scourge Beasts on the bridge, you can see them here. Throw a pebble or attract their attention and quickly run back into the top floor of the building you just exited. The beasts will get trapped in the doorway and you can easily kill them without taking any damage. Now all that lies between you and the end of the bridge is one brick-wielding Huntsman's Minion and a few Carrion Crows. Lure the minion away from the crows, then finish the birds off after. As you make your way to the end of the bridge, say hello to your first boss fight - the Cleric Beast.
Cleric Beast Boss Fight
The Cleric Beast will be your primer for the bosses of Bloodborne. He’s large, has crazy strength, will destroy everything and anything around him, and can easily kill you if you don’t react fast enough. He also has a few weak points that you can take advantage of.
