Food vouchers for delayed flights. How do you use them?
I received a $15 food voucher for a delayed flight that could be used at the airport or hotel.
Since I was flying first, I had no use for the voucher. Rather than 'waste' it, I went to Starbucks and loaded up on biscotti and other assorted snacks. Never know when you'll be hungry.
As the clerk was ringing up, she kept telling me my total, and I kept adding. I came within a few cents of $15.
How do you spend your food voucher?

At BOS, I took my voucher to Dunkin and bought a donut and a pound bag of coffee.
Cashier told me it could only be used for food and drink. I told her my plan was to grind up those beans, add water, filter, and then drink. When the supervisor laughed out loud, she rang it up without another question.

I got two vouchers once when a flight was massively delayed at AMS. I got food with one, and then with the second ordered four large Baileys at one of the café bars. They claimed that the voucher couldn't be used for alcohol, so I told them I'd no cash and so they should pour them back in the bottle. They took the voucher.

No. The store must attach the receipts to the voucher in order to be reimbursed by the airline - and they are reimbursed only the actual amounts for goods sold excluding tax/VAT.
I get to review and sign off on all the invoices from delayed flights at my airline so I am highly familiar with the process. It is also quite amusing to see some of the stuff that people have purchased in lieu of refreshments (my favourite is "edible underwear" from LaSenza claimed to be "Food").

I don't really use food vouchers for my meals. I'll just suck it up and eat something that doesn't cost as much at the airport. I'll use the food vouchers for a dessert or drink and such.

For a meal? Mr. Fox and I got $15 food vouchers for a 4-hour delay on a westbound TCON scheduled to leave at 4:something. $30 put a dent in the price of a nice dinner at Von's Steakhouse (JFK T8) and was an excellent alternative to pacing and fretting, followed by BOB (no upgrades). Otherwise stocking up on snacks would work. $15 at Starbucks doesn't go that far.

Bringing this thread back from the dead... How far have people pushed the limits with these vouchers? Just received one in DEN for a MX delay. Coincidentally, I forgot my belt today, so was going to give it a whirl at the Johnston & Murphy in MSP.
Gate agent tells me it will work in Minneapolis and http://bit.ly/V4vek1 says it "can be used to purchase goods or services at most airport merchants, and at near-by hotels & eating establishments." In fact, it makes no mention of food at all...
I might try and buy a gift card somewhere...

I've taken a box of cinnebons home for breakfast. If I know I'll have a refrigeratori my hotel room, a salad to eat the next day works too. Unfortunately DL meal vouchers cannot be used to purchase a bottle of wine in the Syrdyk's wine store deli outpost at MSP.

Had a mechanical cancellation in Montreal last year. For some reason, the GA printed up for me THREE food vouchers for USD 28 each, which could be used either at YUL or at my connection point EWR. Used one for a nice meal at YUL, used one at EWR for a box of pastries to take home, and the last at EWR Starbucks for a pile of muffins that I gave to my favorite ground staff agent at my home airport upon arrival.
On a previous trip, gave my voucher to a family waiting in line for breakfast at a concourse eatery.
